| Isla Canela |
Isla Canela enjoys modern and fast routes of communication to the peninsula and Europe through the airports of Faro, in Portugal (50 km) and Seville (150 km). The recent inauguration of the freeway A 49 that unites Ayamonte with Sevila, makes Isla Canela only one hour and quarter away from Seville.
Freeway IP-1 links with the Portuguese Algarve. All this converts Isla Canela in a high-priority destination not only for the Spanish market but for the European.
Isla Canela is ideally located as a base to explore both Western Spain & the Portugese Algarve.
To the east is Seville, Jerez & Cadiz.To the north the upper reaches of the navigable River Guadiana & mountains of Aracena. To the west the fishing villages, resorts & beaches of the Algarve are easily accessible for day trips. Lisbon is 350km. The temperate winter climate is due to the proximity with Africa. Maximum summer temperature is 30 degrees centigrade . |

Costa de la Luz, the Coast of Light, the name comes from the long hours of sunlight & beautiful sunsets over the south facing coastline. It is a unique and beautiful area of Spain.
The area is largely untouched and has been spared the mass tourist exploitation that many other coasts of Spain have suffered.
Here the original culture and heritage of the local people is still very much present and the land holds large national parks.

The settlement of this island dates from Roman times. Indeed the island possesses a mausoleum from the 4th century, which is preserved and, at the moment, located at the side of the road that connects Ayamonte with Punta del Moral.
As a historic monument it is also necessary to mention the Almenara Tower, constructed with military characteristics it was used for the defence of the coast to repel invasions by pirates . |

The development of Isla Canela into a holiday destination has involved rigorous planning and has resulted in a wonderful harmonization between nature conservation and development.
Over 60% of the island is designated as "Paraje Natural" which means it is a protected area. With its 7 kilometres of golden sand the Punta del Moral beach extends around to the West where it connects to Isla Canela beach. . |

Isla Canela is a small island with miles of beaches just beyond the small fishing town of Ayamonte. With a lovely small harbour and a regular ferry to Portugal, it is Spain's gateway to Portugal and the Algarve. A short trip into town and you have the full range of Spanish tapas and main course delicacies from several dozen restaurants. There are basic shops and a small supermarket within easy walking distance, with larger shops and supermarkets situated in Ayamonte. Ayamonte also has a daily meat, fish, fruit and veg market - get there early for the best choice. Villa Real in Portugal also has a good range of shops, remember they're an hour behind Spanish time. |

The Atlantic Costa de la Luz in the Huelva province is home to the aquamarine crystal clear Atlantic Ocean, sand dunes, golf courses and miles of beaches, Inland, a great variety of different sceneries awaits the traveller. The countryside boasts wild mountain ranges, fertile farmlands and pasturelands, vineyards and secluded towns. Between Ayamonte and Punta Umbria the coast is flat with very long beaches where relatively modern towns have been set up. There are sand dunes, Pine forests and sandbanks formed by the estuaries of small rivers and the powerful currents of the Atlantic Ocean. The capital, Huelva, is a little inland from the coast between the rivers Tinto and Odiel, and a little further on is the start of a vast beach reaching to the river Guadalquivir. |

Activities Para-surfing, sailing, volleyball and dolphin watching are available from the beach or marina; river trips from Ayamonte; Seville is just over an hour's drive away. There is a golf course on the island (see below) with several other courses within 30 minutes drive. Tennis and horse riding are available nearby. Isla Canela Golf is an island course and offers the player a chance to see what salt marshes are like, for that is what the course is set on. Eucalyptus trees are In abundance, there is wild and attractive scenery and hazards both natural and manmade. Among these are several natural lakes and well-placed bunkers. This is a beautiful 18-hole course at Ayamonte, where facilities for visitors are developing at a breathtaking rate. |

Golf in the Costa de la Luz There are about 25 golf courses on the Costa de la Luz! In the province of Huelva alone, within half an hour away by car, there are eight quality golf courses to choose from. The dry and sunny climate make the region superbly suited for year-round golfing and the sport has been growing steadily in the region during the past 20 years because of it. As if all the golf courses on the Costa de la Luz and around Seville were not enough there is also all the courses on the Portuguese Algarve. Here you have some 24 courses of different style and difficulty within one hours drive of Isla Canela. The nearest ones at Castro Marim are only a few minutes away.
